Universal Music and Lions Gate to Join Blu-Ray
August 19, 2005
On Tuesday August 16 Universal Music Group announced that it will support the Blu-Ray DVD format instead of the HD DVD format. The Blu-Ray group also has the backing of Sony BMG Music Entertainment, meaning that approximately 50% of the world's music software market is in the Blu-Ray camp.

Furthermore, on Wednesday August 17 Lions Gate Home Entertainment made an announcement that they will release movies on the Blu-Ray format. Lions Gate joins fellow movie studios Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Disney in the Blu-Ray camp, while Warner Brothers, Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures have thrown their support behind the rival HD DVD format.
